Face-amount certificate - Definition

A type of Investment firm that issues debt securities to its investors. These securities are called face-Amount certificates and are backed by security Interest on assets such as real property or other securities. The company or Mutual Fund issuing such debt is called the Face amount certificate company. The issuer agrees to pay to the holder the Face Value at Maturity.
